Are you willing to show up?

“I always did something I was a little not ready to do. I think that’s how you grow. When there’s that moment of ‘Wow, I’m not really sure I can do this,’ and you push through those moments, that’s when you have a breakthrough.” – Marissa Mayer

This quote came to me right after I had been asked to do a quick segment on a local TV station last week. While I was excited for the opportunity (and give thanks to a friend for the recommendation) my mind was coming up with every excuse not to do it. Why? Because I was scared. Scared of how I’d sound, look and what people would think.

However, I also realized I ask for things and when they show up I try to shut the door because of the fears that I create in my mind. I want to grow my business and when opportunities that I’ve been wanting to happen appear I get scared and sometimes say no, back out or don’t follow through on my end. It’s a sabotage. When I was asked to appear on the TV segment I was so scared I really wanted to say no but doing that would have gone against what I’ve been asking for in regards to putting myself out there more, challenging my fears and taking opportunities to share what I know as a Life Coach.

Hiding and not sharing the video is another way of letting the self judgements and fears keep me playing small. So, I’m sharing it here, with big deep breaths as I hit the send button. I have lots of thoughts around it that I’m working on but the #1 that I am proud to share is courage. You’re seeing me, being as courageous as I’ve been in a long time.

In the book Daring Greatly Brené Brown shares that the willingess to show up changes up. I’m willing to show up for every opportunity that makes me want to run this year, are you? Where and how have you been doing it already? If you haven’t why, what’s holding you back? What’s the worst that could happen?

“What’s worth doing even if I fail?” –Brené Brown.
