Live Your Dash

A couple of years ago the phrase Live Your Dash came to my attention. A man was pointing out that when we look at tombstones we notice the dates: of death and birth. But, that there’s a dash in the middle. He shared that while the dates are significant what you do in between is what is the most important.

That story hasn’t left me for long. I think about it often, especially when I hear stories of people who push off what they dream of most. And, the opposite, when I see a friend doing the things that light her up and sharing with the world.

Living your dash is about living a life you can look back on without regrets. It’s about….

· taking risks
· choosing adventure
· getting out of your comfort zone
· loving full on
· being reminded that we may not have our retirement years for those trips of a lifetime so planning for them while you’re healthy or alive.
· making time for the things that light up–allow you to relax, laugh and be

If you’re a fisherman who doesn’t fish, where in your life can you make space for some fishing?

If you have been wanting to take a trip to Hawaii but say you’ll never be able to afford it why not set that as a goal and start socking away $10 a week.

Nobody is going to life your life for you. The dash is yours to image and to live, without regrets.

“I’ll tell you what it’s time to do right now. It’s time to set your schedule in order so that you don’t look back on the day of your death and wonder why you never really lived. It’s time to ignore the opinions of those who think your life should be all about their cause, their rules, their agenda, and not your soul’s desire. It’s time to stop flagellating and start dancing.”
