Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

We often talk about wanting to do or change something in our lives. We want to handle money differently, lose weight, eat healthier, spend more time with family and friends, etc.

Most of the time that’s all it is, talk and want but no action. Can you recall where you’ve done or are currently doing this? I know I’ve been there recently and the thing is, no matter how much you want something it’s not going to just appear from the sky on your doorstep, there needs to be action, momentum in that direction.

So here’s a few things you can do:

1.     Ask yourself if you truly want this thing you talk about. Sometimes it’s just the idea of it you like but when you take a closer look you don’t really want it.
2.     If you do truly want it imagine how you’re going to feel once you have it. Use all five senses—what will you see, feel, taste, touch and smell with it? How will those jeans fit that you’ve been dying to wear? How big will your smile be once you pay off that final credit card?
3.     Call your bluff on your excuses. Notice where you’re stalling and accept that you’ve been making excuses.
4.     Share what you want with someone you trust and ask them to help you be accountable for action toward it
5.     Pay attention to your actions and choices you make in your life and whether they’re moving you closer to what you want or further away. When you’re planning a dinner out are there food options that allow you to eat in a way that meets your living healthier goal? When you pull out your debit card to buy that $4 latte is that helping pay your debt down?
6.     Take one step each day, no matter how small it is towards this dream you have.

Here’s to no more excuses, walking the talk and loving your life!
