What’s happening right NOW?

Being present in the moment. This is something many people bypass by living in ivebeenwaypod-150x150the past, fearing the future and ignoring where they are right now.

Do you notice this happening with yourself? I certainly did at the holidays. It was
part of my struggle, looking back and feeling disappointed about decisions I did or didn’t make in 2013 and worrying about what might or might not happen in 2014. Totally ignoring where I was right then–with my family who loves me unconditionally.

I’m part of an amazing group of women putting new practices into play for ourselves in 2014. One woman recently shared her practice is living in the moment. “It’s simple and challenging,” she said, which is so true. Michelle shared that when she finds her mind wandering … planning for the future or trying to “process through” the past she gently says to herself, “That is lovely, but what are you doing right now?”

She shared that she practiced this while making chili earlier this week… her mind was busy, figuring out how to market some service that doesn’t even exist yet, and she asked herself, “What am I doing now?”

“Oh yeah, I’m making chili.” She then actually took the time to stir in some love and inhale the delicious smell and take a taste. “It was like a miracle moment,” she said.

Again I can so relate. When I allow myself to be fully present in what I’m doing I get lost in it, my heart opens, I focus and where there may have been fears, doubts or worries they turn to awareness, knowledge and trust.

Letting go of the past, not fearing the future but being fully present in the right now is where the magic begins to happen.

I recently read All I Could Ask For by Mike Greenberg and I wanted to share words from one of the characters as she described her definition of what makes life worth living…

“What makes life worth living is not anything that might happen. It is what is happening right now. It is this moment. Not yesterday, not tomorrow, right now.”
