What’s Your Ideal Summer?

One of my favorite things to do that I haven’t yet done this summer is to sit down with a pen and paper, either alone or with your family and friends, and write out how you want your summer to look, when you reflect on it later in the year.

To do this imagine the summer is past, it’s now September / October and you’re talking about what happened over the last few months. How do you want to describe it and feel about it?

For me, I want more time with the kids and less in front of the computer, to take small day trips on Fridays, have cookouts with friends, and go camping at my brother’s house.

It’s easy to talk about what we want to do, and then not do it or get caught up in the hustle of it and not even consider what we want. Then, once the summer is over we look back and are disappointed because we missed doing some things that can only be done during the summer months, and now we have to wait until next year. We’ve done that the last few years—we wanted to take the kids tubing/kayaking but the time slipped by.

From the place of having a vision of what you want to do and how you want to feel after it’s past will help to then create your ideal summer.

Now, look at your schedule/calendar and start finding the days/times to fit in there the things that are most important, then add the smaller things from there.

Here’s to your ideal summer 2014.
